Welcome to Die Ou Pastorie Restaurant and Guest House

Located nearby Hartbeespoort Dam, the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site and the UNESCO Magaliesberg Biosphere Reserve The foundations for Die Ou Pastorie were laid in 1884/5. During this time Skeerpoort was a flourishing farming community, and the parsonage was a building of status with well-built foundations, wooden floors and ceilings as well as sash windows. Architecturally, the “Pastorie” was built in what was later identified as the “ZAR style” with fewer embellishments than the “Victorian Style” – so popular with English colonialists at the time.

After more than a hundred years of service as a parsonage, police station and private residence, Die Ou Pastorie is now a sought-after destination restaurant and guesthouse for our more discerning visitor both local or international to Hartbeespoort Dam, the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site and the UNESCO Magaliesberg Biosphere Reserve As a guests of Die Ou Pastorie you will be accommodated in one of our  eight individually appointed garden suites, all with views of the Magaliesberg Mountains. Each suite follows a unique theme, with funky, mismatching light fittings, materials and décor providing an eccentric yet welcoming ambience.

Our Rooms

All  our rooms are spacious and en suite with private balconies, and embody both the serenity and vibrancy of Die Ou Pastorie. Each room has air conditioning and DSTV (Limited Bouquet), and hairdryers are available on request. The rooms all have easy access to the well-established gardens and large swimming pool with splendid rock feature and greenery.

Our Restaurant

Our country style A la carte restaurant is housed within a stunning 521m² complex, a significant portion of which is the beautiful 315m² historic homestead building – “Die Ou Pastorie” – which dates back to 1885. Adjacent to the restaurant stands a magnificent specimen of The Wild Olive (Olea europea subsp. africana) which has been dated by knowledgeable botanists as being older than 200 years. Its branches graciously spread out over our splendid glassed off Conservatory – a favourite part of the restaurant for intimate family celebrations of up to 25 people.

The A la carte menu offers many wonderfully wholesome value-for-money meals. The food is of an exceptional quality and our portion sizes are referred to be guests as being “very generous”. The various dining rooms inside the restaurant offer different experiences and can comfortably seat around 40 to 50 guests. Immediately adjacent to the restaurant is a 162m² under-cover area which we refer to as “The Portico”.

On those rainy days when the weather isn’t necessarily playing along nicely but it isn’t cold enough for guests to want to sit inside, we will seat and serve them here. The Portico also serves to be an important area where we host our intimate afternoon and evening music events, which attract anywhere between 30 to 95 guests.

Closely in touch with our country’s artistic exuberance, Die Ou Pastorie provides the ideal environment to showcase talented people and this has been one of the cleverest ways through which we have achieved significant brand differentiation. Our music events are extremely well patronised and so you will have to book in advance if you desire to experience these.
