About Us
aha Lesedi is located in the heart of the African bushveld amidst the rocky hills within the Cradle of Humankind, a World Heritage Site. Discover the fascinating cultures and traditions of the people of Africa, visiting five traditional homesteads inhabited by Zulu, Xhosa, Pedi, Basotho and Ndebele tribes who live according to tribal folklore and traditions of their ancestors. “Our culture is the light of our nation – whoever walks here amongst our cultures at aha Lesedi can also see the light.”
If you are looking for a lapa to host memorable events, Tswana Letsatsi is ideal. This venue’s unique outdoor atmosphere is complemented by an authentic African ‘braai’ menu, as well as a stocked bar, to ensure any function is a great success.
Guests are also invited to enjoy the essence of Ubuntu at aha Lesedi, where the song, music and warmth of our cultural hospitality add a truly unique touch to your conference.
Overnight stays:
Experience genuine tribal village accommodation in Gauteng without giving up modern day comforts when you stay in a traditional beehive hut – inside it’s luxurious with all the mod cons you could wish for. You’ll meet the head of the household, who will then be your host and guide for the rest of your stay.
Guests from the different homesteads make their way to the Ndebele village, where you’ll be given a welcome to Lesedi Cultural Village by all its residents. This is followed by a short, but comprehensive, audio-visual presentation that introduces you to South Africa’s history and people.
Your host will take you on a guided tour of all the homesteads before it’s back to your “own” village to spruce up for dinner. As the African sun sets, prepare yourself for one of the highlights of your trip when you go into the Ingoma – the dance boma – to watch an impressive display of African dancing. This is followed by an eclectic African feast. Choose from potjiekos – a traditional meat stew cooked in a black cast-iron pot with samp (maize porridge) and beans – or chops, boerewors (beef sausage), steak or chicken from the braai; or test your taste buds and try crocodile, kudu or warthog.
There’s a craft market for last-minute curios and handmade local arts and crafts.
Inevitably this is a bit of a “touristy” experience, but Lesedi Cultural Village is unique. Expect an excellent and authentic African experience in the country, one that provides warmth, depth and insight into South Africa’s colourful diversity of cultures.
