Meerhof is one of the oldest areas and named by General Schoeman whose farm in the Valley was flooded to make the Hartbeespoort dam. Johan Schoeman, his son and pioneer of modern day Hartbeespoort, lived in Meerhof and the family home still remains in the Good Sheppard retreat.
