Van Gaalen Kaasmakerij

Our farm is situated in Skeerpoort, a village at the foot of the majestic Magaliesberg mountains and we are open six days a week from 8h00 to 17h00. We are closed on Tuesdays.

We have a restaurant and full function facilities for weddings, family outings, corporate functions, team building and any kind of festive occasion. Tailor made proposals can be arranged like lunches for tour groups, picnics and wine tasting.

Besides our restaurant we can offer you a lovely relaxing picnic on the banks of the Skeerpoort river. The picnic hampers must be booked at least a day in advance. Any quantity of cheese can be bought at the Farm Shop, as well as a selection of wine, preserves, souvenirs, a range of Dutch favorites, sweets, odds and ends. In our Milk Cottages we offer accommodation for overnight visitors.

Our community enjoys country lifestyle, privacy and looks after the environment. Trails have been developed by Erik Schipper for horse riding, hiking, birding, mountain biking and trail running. Day permits for the Skeerpoort Trails are available at the farm shop.

Guided Tours

A tour around the Van Gaalen Kaasmakerij is an interesting experience for young and old. It combines a demonstration of the cheese making process with a special Dutch cheese tasting on the farm. Mature and semi-mature cheese are available to both cheese lovers and serious buyers.

Every Wednesday and Saturday morning we offer a tour at 10h00 for individuals. This tour takes an hour and fifteen minutes. The tour includes cheese tasting, a cup of coffee or juice and a slice of Dutch Apple Cake.

For groups we can make reservations on other days and at other times too. Tours cater for all ages and are offered in English, Afrikaans, German and Dutch. Schools, businesses, clubs and tourists are all welcome, as the tour is both educational, enjoyable and fun for everybody. Tours for groups are arranged by appointment only.
